The Promise
2025
Restoration & Colorization
Archive restoration and colorization: Composite Films
In the 1960s the Netherlands prepared its former colony, Dutch New Guinea, for independence. Under international pressure Indonesia took control, and the referendum promised to the Papuans was rigged. Through restored and colorized 1960s archive and the testimony of exiled Papuans, Daan Veldhuizen tells the story of a broken promise and an oppression that continues today.
