Vichy France : a Painful Memory

Vichy France : a Painful Memory

Vichy, its collaboration system and its crimes, have been dismissed for a long time, by a political power eager to forget the past and bring the French back together. It was not until 1995, with the historical speech of president Jacques Chirac, that the crime of the Vichy Regime were officially acknowledged. Books, movies, historical work, have all contributed to develop an awareness about this period, but it is mostly the civil society that led the fight against falsification and denial, in the name of truth and justice. This documentary narrates this fifty-years-long fight, that profoundly divided France.
