De Gaulle (1940-1944)

De Gaulle (1940-1944)

The period between 1940 and 1944 were the four years that saw a lonesome, obscure and rebellious officer rise to be the unifying liberator of a nation. They span from De Gaulle’s initial refusal of France’s defeat on 17th June 1940, to a Paris overflowing with joy at the victory parade, 26th August, 1944. During those years, the taciturn and temperamental De Gaulle, driven by pride and stubbornness, gradually saw himself become the embodiment of the French nation.
