De Gaulle, the Last King of France

De Gaulle, the Last King of France

As the Fifth Republic’s first President, holding office between 1958 and 1968, Charles de Gaulle undoubtedly left a mark on France. The Statesman was always in action, yet was somewhat divided between his certainties and doubts. De Gaulle has been compared to a monarch at times, but he always put France’s greatness and independence first.

This documentary evokes the personality of the general: a cultivated and brilliant man who had a high regard of his duty. De Gaulle, the Last King of France also recounts the important events that took place during his mandate, such as the Generals’ Putsch, the Franco-German reconciliation and the events of May 1968, set within the context of a period when the world was facing rapid change.
